It can be fun to look back at the trends from the different decades. What was once incredibly popular is now something that homeowners can’t wait to update. If you are looking to sell your house in 2018, you need to stay on top of the current trends. Having a house that looks outdated is going to mean one thing for the sales price of your house – it’s going to go down.

Here are 5 trends that are going to be big for homeowners in 2018.

1. Light colored wood cabinets

2017 was all about the white kitchen, but this has quickly changed. No longer are buyers looking for white on white kitchens. Instead, buyers are looking for wood cabinets that are light to medium in color. They prefer the cabinet to have flat fronts or clean modern lines. The warm look of the wood cabinets create an inviting atmosphere.

2. Floral prints

Interior designers are saying that floral prints are going to be coming back in a big way in 2018. Look for bold floral prints with contrasting colors to start showing up on drapery and in furniture.

If you have furniture that you don’t want to replace, you could add in a few touches, such as throw pillows or a slip cover that has bold floral patterns.

3. Matte metal finishes

Remember when bronze was all the rage? And then brushed nickel or antique bronze took over for hardware. 2018 is going to see matte metal hardware take over designs. Shiny metals and gold kitchen hardware is a thing of the past.

4. Warmer tones

Light and bright is what everything has been about for the past couple years. Now, buyers are looking for homes that add a little warmth in with the neutrals.

Homeowners can accomplish this through adding artwork or materials that include caramel browns and warm reds. You can transition your bright and neutral space to a warm and welcoming room.

5. Floors that make a statement

If you have been following along with trends on the popular home design TV shows, there is one thing that you have probably noticed: statement floors are making a reappearance.

Tile floors are now being installed in intricate patterns and with beautiful designs. Herringbone wood floors are also making a comeback. Many buyers are looking for some of those old fashioned details in houses that seemed like they had long been forgotten.

Homeowners do not want to forget the small touches when you are getting your house ready to sell. Add in a variety of plants and flowers to your home as they are a great way to add color and bring life to a room. Homeowners will want to make sure you pay attention to your plants to keep them looking good. Avoid using plants that are obviously fake. And remember to decorate your space without cluttering it.

If you are planning to sell, take the time to learn what the buyers are looking for and find simple ways to add it into your house.
